Description
The Barrack Block at Pendennis Castle is a building dating from 1901, currently used as a hostel and café. It is constructed from Killas rubble with granite dressings, including a plinth coping, and features dry Delabole slate roofs. The building has a large symmetrical E-shaped plan and stands two storeys high, with a symmetrical façade that includes a 1:4:3:4:1-window arrangement, plus five-window returns on the inside of the wings. The original windows are horned sashes with glazing bars.
At the center of the building is a three-storey entrance porch and clock tower, which has a stepped hood-mould at the eaves level and a parapet above the central clock face. There is also an embattled octagonal stair turret located behind the parapet on the right side, along with a date panel above the lower hood-mould. The central entrance features a segmental-arched doorway. The other elevations of the building display similar architectural details. The interior, where inspected, is very plain.
