Description

The steps and walls east of The Chapel in Falmouth were built around the 1840s for the Reverend William Coope, who was the rector of Falmouth from 1838 to 1870. These structures provide access from a former private garden to the beach. The walls are made of rubble, featuring red brick balustrades that are set between square brick piers topped with stepped pyramidal granite caps. The steps are constructed from dressed granite and lead down to an oval stairwell that includes two flights of winder steps. This feature was originally part of the Gyllyngdune Estate and is included for its group value.
