Description
The Storehouse at Pendennis Castle is a building that likely served as a hospital or barracks before being used as a store and then converted back to residential use. It was built in the early 18th century and underwent alterations in the late 18th or early 19th century. The building features slate hanging, and extensions and stacks were removed in 1969. It is constructed of killas rubble with a tall plinth, granite ashlar at the corners, red brick jambs, and segmental arches. There are four round-arched relieving arches over the floor beams and a dry scantle slate hipped roof. The building has a rectangular plan with a basement on the lower ground to the left, and it stands two storeys high with part of the basement. The front is symmetrical with five windows. It has 20th-century horned sashes with glazing bars and a central doorway with a pair of panelled doors, accessed by a flight of granite steps and a mounting block from the right. Inside, the building retains some plain features from the late 18th or early 19th century, including an open-well staircase, a beam and joist structure, simple panelling on either side of the stair hall, a king-post roof structure, and wooden Tuscan columns, which were likely added in the late 19th century.
