SW83SW CASTLE DRIVE 843-1/2/47 The Storehouse, Pendennis Castle 21/01/73 (Formerly Listed as: Pendennis Castle)

GV II*

Probable hospital or barracks, later used as a store then converted back to domestic use. Early C18, altered late C18 or early C19, slatehanging, extensions and stacks removed 1969. Killas rubble with tall plinth; granite ashlar to corners; red brick jambs and segmental arches; 4 round-arched relieving arches over floor beams; dry scantle slate hipped roof. Rectangular plan with basement to lower ground on the left. 2 storeys over part basement; symmetrical 5-window front. C20 horned sashes with glazing bars; central doorway, with pair of panelled doors, approached by flight of granite steps/mounting block from the right. INTERIOR retains some plain late C18 or early C19 features including open-well staircase; beam and joist structure; some simple panelling on either side of the stair hall; king-post roof structure and wooden Tuscan columns inserted probably late C19.
