Description

Church Cottage is a house that was originally two cottages from the 17th century, with additions made to the rear in the 20th century. The building features whitewashed cob on a stone plinth and a corrugated asbestos roof, which was formerly thatched, along with brick chimneys. The layout consists of two single-cell cottages that were accessed through a common entrance door leading into a passage with doors off to the sides.

The structure is two stories tall and has a three-window range. The ground floor windows have been replaced with two-light casements that include glazing bars, with the middle window having replaced a former door. The first-floor windows on the left and right are similar, while the middle window is a one-light casement with glazing bars.

In the ground floor room on the right, there is a massive fireplace featuring one granite jamb, a chamfered fireplace beam with straight cut stops, and a cloam oven cross beam, along with curved, roughly-hewn floor beams. A newel staircase from around the 19th century is located to the left of the fireplace. The ground floor room on the left has similar floor beams and staircase, as well as a large slatestone fireplace with a chamfered fireplace beam and cloam oven. Some original roof timbers are still present.
