Description
East Hele Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a combination of a house and outbuilding, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with recent renovations. The structure is made of rendered cob and features a steeply-pitched slate roof, which was originally thatched. The house is one room deep and likely extended at the higher end, where there is a partly projecting gable-end stack. There is also a ridge stack that backs onto an old stable now incorporated into the house.
The farmhouse is two stories high with a three-window range and has an off-centre enclosed porch topped with a gabled slate roof. The windows throughout the building are carefully renewed casements with glazing bars. On the ground floor, the room to the left has a massive fireplace with a chamfered fireplace beam and a timber jamb on the right. There is a cloam oven with "A Gliddon, Foundry, Marhamchurch" inscribed on the cast iron door, and the floor is made of slate.
Inside, the main cross beam is chamfered with straight cut stops, and the axial ceiling beams are also chamfered with straight cut stops. The roof has been raised, and there are chamfered principals in four bays on the first floor. Additionally, there are pigeon holes in the front of the old stable.
