Description
Caskair Cottage is a small house dating from the 18th century, with some walling on the west side rebuilt in the 19th century. The exterior features painted killas rubble and cob walls, timber lintels, and a corrugated asbestos roof that was formerly thatched, with brick chimneys on the gable ends. The right-hand gable end was once a party wall with a now mostly demolished house to the east. Originally designed with a two-room plan and a central through passage, the internal partitions have been removed, resulting in a single rectangular room. The cottage is two storeys high and has a slightly irregular two-window south front, which was likely symmetrical at one time. The left window on the ground floor is now spaced farther to the left due to the partly rebuilt walling. The central doorway features a four-panel door, and there are late 19th-century four-pane horned sash windows. The interior includes a 19th-century staircase against the back wall to the right, while the surviving structure of ceiling beams, floorboards, and roof structure is from the 18th century. A large chimney breast is located on the right side (east). Caskair Cottage is notable for being one of the few small houses in this part of Cornwall that has remained little altered externally since the 19th century.
