Description

GWENNAP SW 73 NE 7/91 Caskair Cottage - GV II Small house. C18, some walling to west rebuilt in the C19. Painted killas rubble and cob walls. Timber lintels. Corrugated asbestos roof formerly thatched with brick chimneys over gable ends. Right-hand gable end was at one time party wall with house to right (east) since mostly demolished. Originally 2-room plan with central through passage, internal partitions removed and now 1 rectangular room. 2 storeys. Slightly irregular 2-window south front, probably originally symmetrical but ground floor left window in partly rebuilt walling to left of doorway now spaced farther to left. Central doorway with 4-panel door. Circa late C19 4-pane horned sashes. Remains of former front wall of further house to right. Interior has C19 stair against back wall to right. Otherwise surviving structure of ceiling beams, floor boards and roof structure is C18. Large chimney breast to right (east). One of the few small houses in this part of Cornwall to have survived little altered externally since the C19.
