Description
Hay Cottage is a small house dating from the 18th century. It features whitewashed rubble walls, which may include some cob at the top, and a thatched roof that is hipped to the left and gabled at the right end. There is a rendered brick stack at the gable end. The building has a two-room plan, with the original fireplace in the left-hand end wall blocked off, while the fireplace in the right-hand end wall may have been added later.
The cottage is two storeys high and has a regular two-window front with mid-20th century two-light metal-frame casements that have leaded panes. The centre of the three ground floor windows may cover a blocked doorway. To the left of this window is a 19th-century plank door, both of which are sheltered by a thatch hood. Inside, the beams and fireplace have been renewed.
