Description
Church Gate Cottage is a house dating to approximately the late 17th century. It is constructed of plastered rubble walls with a hipped thatched roof, and features a rendered rubble axial stack. The house follows a 3-room plan, with the axial stack dividing two rooms at the front. The entrance is located in the right-hand end, leading into a small room behind. The front facade is asymmetrical, with a two-window arrangement to the main part and three windows below. The ground-floor windows are 20th-century 2- and 3-light casements. A late 18th or early 19th century 20-pane hornless sash window is found in the right-hand end wall, above which is an early 20th century 2-light casement. A 20th-century plank door is situated to the left, sheltered by a thatch hood. The interior was inaccessible at the time of survey but may contain features such as ceiling beams and open fireplaces.
