Description

A pair of cottages, originally four, dating from the early 18th century with 19th-century additions. The cottages are constructed of plastered stone rubble, possibly incorporating some cob, with a thatched gable-ended roof. Brick stacks are located at each gable and one axial stack. The layout suggests the cottages were initially built as either one or two rooms each, and were later converted into two cottages, each with two or three rooms. Rear extensions may be original or from the 19th century. The long, asymmetrical front has six windows. Moonrakers, on the left, features 2-light, small-paned casements on the ground floor, a 19th-century 2-light casement above to the left, a late 18th or early 19th century horizontal sliding sash window to its right, and a small single-light window beyond. A 20th-century stable-type door is located to the left of the centre. Dyers Cottage, to the right, has 2-light 20th-century casements, including a metal-frame window in the centre of the first floor. It also has a 20th-century stable-type door to the left of the centre. The interior was inaccessible at the time of survey, but may contain original features such as open fireplaces and ceiling beams. The cottages have group value.
