Bakehouse 15 Metres To North West Of Newton Ferrers House

The bakehouse, now used as a store with a studio above, dates from the 17th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and has an asbestos slate roof with hipped ends on the north and south sides. A large stone lateral stack is located on the north elevation, with a 20th-century brick stack adjacent to it. The building has a one-room plan with a loft above.

The south front features two storeys and includes a dressed stone arch with a granite keystone. A window has been added to the first floor in a new opening, with brick dressings. The east elevation has a partly blocked large dressed stone arch with a granite keystone and a four-light window above it. The ground rises to the west, where there is a loft entrance in the west elevation.

Inside, there is a large granite chamfered lintel above the fireplace, with a chamfered right-hand jamb. A bake oven is located to the right of the fireplace. Concrete block piers have been introduced for additional support for the upper floor, and the ceiling beams have been replaced. The loft has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value with other nearby structures.
