Description
Coupland House is an early 19th-century town house located on Castle Street in Launceston. It features a textured finish on render or stucco over masonry, with a mid-floor band above the basement and slate hanging on the left-hand end. The building has a hipped rag slate roof and a double-depth plan, consisting of two storeys over a basement and a five-window range. The original windows are hornless sashes with glazing bars.
There are nine granite steps leading up to a recessed bay on the left, which includes a deeply recessed doorway with a concentric spoked fanlight and glazed sidelights, along with a six-panel door. To the right of the steps, there is a basement doorway featuring a six-panel door with the top four panels glazed. The rear of the house has a doorway similar to the main front doorway and retains original hornless sashes with glazing bars. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is likely to be of interest.
Additionally, there are subsidiary features, including a red brick wall made of headers with hogs-back granite coping that encloses a shallow forecourt.
