Description
This is a late 18th or early 19th century town house located on Cross Street in Helston. The front facade originally had stucco, but it has since been replaced with rendering over rubble construction. A granite ashlar plinth, quoin strips, the doorway, and parapet coping provide contrast. The roof is covered in asbestos slate, with rendered axial stacks and cast-iron ogee gutters. The house has a large plan, including service wings at the rear. The front presents a symmetrical appearance with five windows. The original windows are 12-pane hornless sash windows. The central doorway features rustication, an impost string, and a flat arch with coping that acts as a hood. The doors are a pair of 4-panel doors with fielded panels, alongside a spoked fanlight with concentric elliptical arches. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest and includes panelled window shutters to the front ground-floor rooms. The property is accompanied by greenstone and granite ashlar forecourt walls made from granite. These walls flank a wide carriage entrance to the right of the house, and also adjoin a coach house.
