Description
The garden railings and gate-piers at Eagle House Hotel in Launceston were likely built around 1764, at the same time as the house. The railings are made of simple spiked wrought iron and feature fleur-de-lis finials on the stanchions. They are set on a brick plinth with granite coping, flanking a central gateway. The gate-piers are square in plan and made of rusticated stucco and brick, with moulded plinths and an entablature, topped with stucco eagles. A pair of wrought-iron gates is situated between wrought-iron jambs, which are linked by a scrolled overthrow.
