SW 62 NW SITHNEY CHURCHTOWN, Sithney

7/299 Gate piers, gates, steps and - railings at approximately 50 metres south of Church of Saint Sithney GV II

Gate piers, gates, steps and railings. Probably circa late C18 with early or mid C19 ironwork. Dressed granite, granite ashlar and wrought iron. Rectangular-on-plan gateway with granite grid stile between granite ashlar walls and approached by 5 granite steps up from the front (south) end. On the right hand side is an adjoining granite wall angled back following the churchyard boundary and linked to another gateway which is wider with a square-on-plan cruciform-headed granite monolithic pier on either side and on the left-hand side of the stile the wall continues for a few metres. The walls have chamfered copings over which are railings with top rail only and fleur-de-lys finials to the closely-spaced bars. Over the main gateway is an iron overthrow with lamp mounting in the middle and scrolled bracing at either side Single iron gate to this gateway and double iron gates to the other gateway.
