Description
The gateway at the north entry to the churchyard at the Church of St George dates from the 19th century and features gate piers and gates made of granite, cast iron, and wrought iron. It consists of two monolithic granite piers, each approximately 500 millimeters square and 2.25 meters high, topped with pyramidal caps on a plinth. The gateway includes a pair of iron gates with spear tops and dog bars, along with a pedestrian gate to the right. There is also a quadrant of railings with spear heads on a low granite wall, set against a thin-bedded stone square pier. The gates swing into a recess with a large granite step. The right pier is adorned with a lantern supported by four scrolls, which was originally a gas lamp but has been converted to an electrical fitting. This gateway serves as the principal entry to the church.
