Description

MODBURY CHURCH STREET SX 6451-6551 (north side) 7/134 Wall, railings and gate to No 23

GV II

Boundary wall with railings and gate. Late C19. Rubble wall, cast iron rail- ings. Rubble wall to weathered coping set to steep slope runs from about 1 metre at the left to 2.25 metres at right end, and returns by a path to the set-back front of No 23 (which is not of special interest). On wall is set of plain iron railings to spear heads and including 6 turned stanchions most with urn finials; rail returns to front of No 23. At left end is gate, abutting and at right angles to the front of No 22 (qv). Loss of this feature would break the continuity of the street at this point.
