Description
The boundary wall, railings, and gate to No 23 on Church Street in Modbury date from the late 19th century. The structure features a rubble wall with cast iron railings. The wall has weathered coping and is set on a steep slope, measuring approximately 1 metre high on the left and rising to 2.25 metres on the right. It returns by a path to the set-back front of No 23, which is not of special interest. The wall is adorned with a set of plain iron railings topped with spear heads, including six turned stanchions, most of which have urn finials. The railings return to the front of No 23. At the left end of the wall, there is a gate that abuts and is positioned at right angles to the front of No 22. The loss of this feature would disrupt the continuity of the street at this location.
