Description
No. 17 Church Street is a wide frontage house located in a row, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building features a smooth rendered exterior and a slate roof. It stands two and a half storeys tall. On the ground floor, there is a 4-pane sash window alongside two additional 4-pane sashes beyond the doorway. Above, on the first floor, there are three unevenly spaced 12-pane sash windows, and at the eaves, to the right, there is a small 2-light casement window situated above the first-floor window. The entrance is marked by an off-centre, left-positioned 19th-century 4-panel door with an overlight, set in plain reveals and topped with a stone cornice supported by consoles. The eaves display a series of four sections of coved cornice, which suggest that there may have originally been two additional windows, possibly for half-dormers, similar to those found on the adjoining No. 16. A brick gable stack is located on the left side of the building.
