Description
The gate piers, gate, steps, and flanking walls located to the east-north-east of the Church of Saint Hilary date from the late 18th century. They are constructed from granite ashlar with granite dressings and feature a wrought-iron gate. The design includes a cruciform plan, with gate piers that project from the side walls on either side of the gateway. There are tall parallel walls within the gateway, which may have previously been filled in, and a flight of seven steps that is flanked by a balustrade wall outside the gateway. The piers are rebated for the gate and topped with round copings, while the side walls have segmental copings. The gate itself features an arched top rail, roundels on the lock rail, and diamond shapes on the bottom rail.
