Description

The Cusvey Mines chimney, located at SW757419SE, is a detached chimney that served the engine house situated on lower ground to the north. It dates from the early 19th century. The chimney is constructed of killas rubble with a dressed granite band and collar. It is round in plan and tapers in three stages. There is a flush band over the first stage and a projecting collar with ovolo-moulding over the second stage. The upper stage, which is partly fallen, is narrower than the collar. Additionally, put log holes remain, which were used to support scaffolding during construction. This chimney is a rare example of an early detached chimney, notable for its distinctive granite collar and unusual band.
