Description
The detached chimney at West Wheal Metal, built in 1881, serves the beam engine house located on lower ground. It is constructed from killas rubble with some granite rubble at the lower stage, while the upper stage features polychrome brick. The chimney is round in plan and consists of two tapered stages. It has an echinus mould at the brick collar, which is topped by a tapered brick shaft adorned with polychrome banding and diaper work. This chimney is noted for its possibly unique brickwork decoration. The contemporary engine house is located to the northwest. The date of construction is sourced from Kenneth Brown, a council member of the Trevithick Society.
