Description
This building complex consists of a barn, formerly a threshing barn, a millhouse, and stables, located about 20 metres west of Brendon Farmhouse. The barn dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, while the millhouse and stables were built in the late 19th century. The barn is made of rendered cob, likely on a stone plinth, and features a hipped scantle slate roof at the left gable end. The millhouse is rendered with a gabled slate roof, and the stables are constructed from slatestone rubble with brick dressings and a gabled slate roof.
The barn faces northeast, with the millhouse attached at the rear left, slightly projecting beyond the barn at the southeast, and includes slate steps leading up to the granary. The stable range extends from the right front of the barn. The barn has a large opening on the front left, topped with a slated pent roof supported by shallow slatestone and cob walls, and features pigeon holes under the eaves to the right. A rear entrance is sheltered by a slated porch supported on brackets. Inside, the barn has a slate floor, and the original threshing platform has been replaced with concrete. The roof structure consists of tie beams with king posts and struts.
The millhouse retains a pit for an undershot water wheel and an intact stone grinding mill. Additionally, there is an early 20th-century oil-driven Blackstone engine housed in a lean-to attached to the rear of the millhouse. The stable range has three openings on the ground floor.
