Description

The Mermaid Cafe and the adjoining house to the north are located on Church Street in Gorran Haven. These buildings date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century and have undergone some alterations in the 20th century. They are constructed from rendered stone rubble, with part of the exterior covered in slate and asbestos slates. The roof is tiled with concrete, featuring a gable end on the left and a hipped roof on the right.

The layout consists of a pair of attached one-room plan houses, each originally having a front door facing Church Street; however, the doorway on the right is now blocked. The house on the right is built over a fish cellar, which originally had an entrance at the right end. The buildings are two storeys high and present an asymmetrical front with three windows. On the first floor, there are three 19th-century 12-pane sash windows that are irregularly spaced. On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century door to the left, with a 19th-century 12-pane sash window to the right of the door. The second doorway is blocked, and there is a similar sash window to the right. The left end of the building is adjacent to the adjoining house. At the right end, there is a doorway leading to the cellar and a 20th-century three-light window on the ground floor. The rear of the building is hung with asbestos slate and features a 20th-century window and door at ground level, along with a 20th-century window and a 19th-century 8-pane sash window on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
