Description

This is an early 19th century house and shop situated on the corner of West Street and Mermaid Street. It is three storeys high and has two windows facing east. The ground floor is painted brick, while the upper floors are stuccoed. An eaves cornice runs around the building, and the roof is tiled, divided into two sections.

The shop’s entrance is in the rounded corner of the building. It features a fluted frame, a flat hood shaped to mirror the curve of the corner, double doors with glazed upper halves, and a curved rectangular fanlight above. Small, curved shop windows with fluted frames and cornices are positioned on either side of the door. The glazing bars are missing from these shop windows, but remain intact in the house windows. There are no other windows on the front of the building facing south. A matching doorway to the house, also in a fluted frame with a rectangular fanlight, flat hood, and a six-panel door, is located on the east front.

The building is part of a group which includes Nos 1 and 2 Norman House, The Tower House, Lamb House, Nos 13 to 17 (consec), and No 1 Mermaid Street.
