Description

The Tower House is a house with a late 17th or early 18th century front, possibly built upon an earlier structure. It is two storeys high with an attic, and has six windows. The house is situated on a bend in West Street, with three windows on either side, suggesting it may originally have consisted of two separate houses. It has a parapet and three dormers. Large, three-light windows with a curved top to the lower sashes are present on the ground floor of the north wing. The remaining windows are standard sash windows. A particularly fine 17th century doorway is a prominent feature, with a fluted frame, a carved panel above the door, and a large curved hood supported by carved brackets. The doorway has an 18th century six-panel moulded door. A modern addition exists on the north side. The Tower House is part of a group which includes Nos. 1 and 2 Norman House, Lamb House, Nos. 13 to 17 (consecutive) and No. 1 Mermaid Street.
