Description
This building is a barn located 20 metres south of Penheale Manor. It likely dates from the late 18th century and was extended in the early to mid 19th century. The structure is made of stone rubble with a cob upper floor and features a slate roof with gable ends. The overall plan is rectangular, with an earlier range on the left side that has a central entrance, and a higher right-hand side that extends with a second rectangular range. There is a full height opening between the two ranges.
The exterior is two storeys tall and built down a slope, with the ground rising to the right. The front elevation is asymmetrical, featuring a full height opening near the centre. The earlier range on the left has plank double doors, flanked by a 19th-century window with lapped glass on the left and a 19th-century two-light casement window on the right. There is a three-light timber mullion window on the first floor. The later range to the right includes a reset granite two-light mullion window on the ground floor. The interior has not been inspected.
