Treninnick Farmhouse with Wall and Gateway Attached to Front

This is an early to mid-19th century farmhouse with an attached wall and gateway. The farmhouse is constructed of rendered stone rubble, with a hipped roof covered in concrete tiles. A rendered stack is located at the left end, and another axial stack is present to the right, also with a rendered shaft. The attached wall is built of slatestone rubble with granite ashlar capping and extends approximately 50 metres in a serpentine plan, enclosing the garden to the front. A gateway with piers is situated at the end of the wall.

The farmhouse has a double depth plan, incorporating three rooms at the front. The entrance is set off-centre to the left, with the principal rooms located to the front right and left of the entrance. A service room is situated at the right end, and a stair hall is located at the rear of the entrance passage. Rear service rooms flank a kitchen, which is heated by a back-to-back fireplace from the axial stack.

The exterior presents a nearly symmetrical three-window front. All the windows are 19th-century 12-pane sashes with cambered arches. A central porch features 2-light casements on either side, pilasters, and a blocking course, with 20th-century glazed doors. The left end of the building is blind, while the right end features a 19th-century plank door with an overlight, and a 12-pane sash window below. The first floor has 12-pane sash windows to the left and centre. The wall, approximately 2 metres high, includes a 2-centred arched doorway with a plank door at the house end. The gateway has a pair of square plan granite ashlar piers on plinths, around 3 metres high with pyramidal caps. A segmental arch made of slatestone is set between the piers, above 20th-century wooden gates. The interior remains uninspected, but may retain good, plain features from the 19th century, including stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
