Description
The Borough Stone, located 5 meters southeast of the West and Methodist Church in Callington, is a granite post that marks the western boundary of the borough. It dates from the 18th century and has a rectangular section with a rounded head. The stone is freestanding and features upper case serif lettering that reads 'BOUNDS OF BOROUGH'. The lower line of lettering is partly obscured by the raised surface of the pavement, and above the inscription are two horizontal parallel lines. Callington was established as a parliamentary borough in 1584 but lost its borough status in 1832. Other borough stones can be found on Launceston Road, St Germans Road, and Tavistock Road in Callington.
