Description
Borough Stone, located 10 meters east of Chyvarhas residential home, is a granite post that marks the southern boundary of the Borough of Callington. It dates from the 18th century and has a rectangular shape with a rounded head, set into a rubblestone wall. The stone features the word 'BOROUGH' inscribed in upper case, serif lettering, along with two horizontal parallel lines above it. There are likely two additional lines below the ground floor that are not visible. Callington was established as a parliamentary borough in 1584 but lost its borough status in 1832. Similar borough stones can be found in Haye Road, Launceston Road, and Tavistock Road in Callington.
