Description
41 Fore Street is a house that has been converted into a shop with offices above. It dates from the early 18th century and was refronted around the mid-18th century. The ground floor is rendered and glazed, while the first floor is covered with whitewashed slate hanging. The building has a slate roof with gabled ends and a projecting gable at the front. It has a single depth plan that extends to the rear and consists of two storeys and an attic, featuring a symmetrical three-window front.
The ground floor includes a late 19th-century canted bay double shop front with a partly glazed door located to the left of the centre. There is a rectangular window to the right that replaces what was once a door, along with a simple fascia board above. On the first floor, there are three 20th-century cross windows with exposed moulded frames. The centre bay of the first floor is slightly projected forward and features a pedimented gable with a central oculus that contains 20th-century diamond leaded lights. At the rear, there is a gabled wing extending to the right, with a catslide roof leading to a single-storey extension on the left. The interior contains 19th and 20th-century joinery, although the roof timbers have not been inspected.
