Description
70 Fore Street is a house that has been converted into a ground floor shop with offices above. It dates from the 18th century and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber-framed and plastered, featuring an old tiled roof with a slate roof over a long rear outshut.
The exterior consists of three storeys. The first floor has two flush-set 19th century sash windows with divided glazing, framed by architrave surrounds. The second floor has two smaller, similar windows. The ground floor features a 20th century shopfront that is recessed below the plaster, which was restored after the removal of an earlier deep fascia. At the back, there is a long narrow outshut with one modern three-light casement window on the second floor and a 19th century triple sash window on the first floor. An external staircase provides access to the offices above, while the ground floor is used for storage.
The interior has not been inspected above the ground floor. The building is part of a group that contributes to the prominent street frontage.
