Description

This building, comprising numbers 32 and 34 Fore Street, was originally part of the former White Swan Inn, alongside numbers 28-30 and number 5 Church Street. It dates to the 17th century, with a refronting in the early 19th century, during which the roof was raised at the front. The building is timber-framed and has been stuccoed, with a Welsh slate roof to the front and old tiles at the rear.

The exterior presents a three-storey, four-bay front, divided into two structural bays. The first and second floors have four flush-set, twelve-pane sash windows with architrave surrounds, spaced in a 2:2 arrangement, with the upper windows being smaller in proportion. The ground floor features a late 19th-century shopfront with a plate glass display window and moulded mullions. A recessed entrance is located on the left side, and there’s a full-width canted fascia with a cornice supported by slim cut consoles. A long, rear outshut of little architectural interest is also present.

Internally, the ground floor has been opened up, but timber beams are visible in the ceiling and on the first floor. The roof is not accessible, and much of the original structure is concealed.
