Description

A house, now shops with a flat above No. 14, dating from the 16th century, with alterations in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. A 19th-century shopfront is present on No. 14. The building is timber-framed, with plastering and some masonry lining. It has a Welsh slate roof and a central square red brick chimney stack on the rear slope.

The exterior has three bays with a jettied front, two storeys and attics. The first floor has three flush-set 12-pane sash windows, with the right-hand window featuring moulded architraves. The ground floor has shopfronts recessed beneath a moulded, coved plate of bressumer. A four-panel door with a glazed top light is on the left, and a 19th-century shopfront features timber framing and plate glass windows above a panelled stallriser. An early/mid-20th century shopfront stands to the right with timber pilasters, plate glass windows, and a central glazed door. The roof features three box dormers above a coved eaves cornice.

The rear outshoots of No. 14 are single and two-storey, timber-framed, plastered, and weatherboarded, with pantiled roofs. A three-light window with multi-pane iron casements appears on the ground floor of the rear addition.

Internally, some 17th-century studwork is visible, with primary bracing. The roof displays halved and pegged rafters and butt purlins.
