Description
23 and 24 Market Place is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices. It dates from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-20th century. Number 24 likely dates back to around 1600. The building features a mix of part timber framing encased in brick, part brick, and part brick painted, topped with a slate gabled roof. It stands three storeys high, with a cellar in number 24 and a flank chimney on the right side. The front has three bays, with the center bay blocked. The left bay contains sash windows set in architrave frames with glazing bars and painted brickwork, while the right bay has had its glazing altered in the top floor sash and features a tripartite sash with glazing bars on the first floor, which is set under a segmental brick head. The ground floor includes a 20th-century shopfront on the right, which is of no special interest, and a 19th-century shopfront on the left, which was restored in the late 20th century. Inside, number 24 has a cellar with some conglomerate stone and visible remnants of timber framing on the upper floors.
