Description

The churchyard boundary wall runs between Chequettes Hall and the north side of the churchyard, with gate piers and a gate located to the northeast of the church, and a boundary wall and railings to the east of the Church of St Mary. This structure dates from the 18th century and mid-19th century. The wall is made of rubblestone and granite on the north side, while the east side features rubblestone with wrought-iron railings.

To the north of the church, the rubblestone wall serves as a 2-meter high retaining wall for the churchyard and a 5-meter high wall to the south of Chequettes Hall, as the ground slopes down to the north. It is likely that this wall was originally the rear wall of a stable block for Chequettes Hall. There are large rubblestone buttresses on the north side, which include a blocked, round arched opening. The wall connects to a lower wall to the northeast and east of the church, featuring gate piers at the northeast corner. The gate piers are made of ashlar stone with moulded caps, which have been broken and remounted. The wrought iron gates are set within this structure. The rubblestone wall continues southwards to the east of the church, topped with wrought iron railings.
