Description

The gates, gate piers, and wall to St Mary's Churchyard date from the early 18th century. They feature two wrought iron gates set into rubble stone walls that are about 8 feet high, topped with rich classical moulded coping. The flanking walls have boldly rusticated quoins at each end, with cappings that are cut square on the inner return face, which do not match the coping. The churchyard walls run along each side, adjacent to the Vicarage wall to the south and the Manor House to the north, constructed from mixed rubble or squared stone with flat copings, totaling a length of 170 feet. The wall next to the Manor House includes a gate set under an elliptical opening, complete with a keystone and a flat-coped top in rendered stone. This gate is positioned between piers made of squared and cut stone, which have moulded cappings topped with large stone ball finials, approximately 20 inches in diameter. These gates provide a formal entry to the south porch of the church.
