Description
The Callington War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was erected in 1921 and altered after the Second World War. It is made of granite and features a Celtic wheel cross with interlace details on a tapering, rough-faced shaft. The shaft stands on a three-stepped base that has inscriptions in black lettering. These inscriptions read: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN UNDYING MEMORY OF THE / FOLLOWING MEN FROM THIS PARISH / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY / IN THE / GREAT WAR 1914 – 1919," followed by the names of those who lost their lives. Surrounding the memorial is an area of granite paving, which is approached by two steps. At the foot of the memorial, on the granite paving, there is a stone tablet carved in the shape of a scroll, inscribed with the dates 1939-1945 and the names of the men of Callington who died during the Second World War.
