Description

Borough Stone is a boundary marker located on Launceston Road in Callington, dating from the 18th century. This granite post, originally rectangular with a rounded head, has been mutilated and now features a flat top. It is inscribed in upper case serif lettering with the words 'BOUNDS OF BOROUGH' and has two incised parallel lines below the inscription. Callington was established as a parliamentary borough in 1584 but lost its borough status in 1832. Similar borough stones can be found on Haye Road, St Germans Road, and Tavistock Road in Callington.
