Description
The borough boundary stone, located 30 metres to the northeast of the sewage works in Camelford, dates from the 18th century. It is made of granite and has a rectangular shape with a rounded top. The stone is inscribed with "C B B" to indicate the boundaries of the borough of Camelford. Similar boundary stones can be found to the north of Beech House on Lane End, west of No. 2 Manor Farm on Victoria Road, and to the north of 24 Roughtor Road in Tregoodwell. The Charter of Camelford was confirmed in 1259, and the borough was created in 1552 to support the Earl of Northumberland's government, but it was abolished in 1831. Information was provided by Mr. F. C. Smeeth.
