Description
The borough boundary stone, located to the west of No. 2 Manor Farm on Victoria Road in Camelford, dates from the 18th century. This granite monolith is rectangular in shape with a rounded top and is inscribed with "C B B" to indicate the boundaries of Camelford borough. Similar boundary stones can be found 30 metres to the northeast of the sewage works in Camelford, north of Beech House on Lane End near the A39, and north of 24 Roughtor Road in Tregoodwell. The Charter of Camelford was established in 1259, and the borough was created in 1552 to support the Earl of Northumberland's government, but it was abolished in 1831. Information was provided by Mr. F. C. Smeeth.
