Description
Trefrize is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the mid-18th century, with some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of slatestone rubble with stone dressings and features a hipped slate roof with stacks on the sides that have rubble shafts. The building has a double depth plan, with a central entrance that leads to a passage and a stair to the rear right. The principal rooms, which are of equal size, are located at the front right and left, while the service rooms at the rear are heated by the side stacks.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window range. All windows are 19th-century 16-pane sashes with flat stone arches. There is a central porch supported by plain wooden piers and a cornice, leading to a four-panelled door with an overlight featuring diamond glazing. The left side of the building is blind, while the right side has a 20th-century casement window with a cambered head at ground floor to the right. The rear of the building has all 20th-century windows, including a central stair light and two-light windows on the first floor to the right and left. The ground floor features a two-light casement to the right and a three-light casement to the left, with a central door that has a hipped hood; all openings have cambered stone arches. The interior has not been inspected.
