Description

Hare and Hounds Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the mid-18th century, with some alterations and additions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of roughcast stone rubble, with parts rendered and some areas slate-hung. It features a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends, and has gable end stacks with rendered shafts, slate weathering, and shaped tops.

The farmhouse has a double depth plan with a central entrance. The principal rooms are located at the front left and right, each heated by a gable end stack. There are shallow rear service rooms, and the front and rear rooms on the right side have been combined into one space. Attached to the right end is a range of pigsties from the 19th century, along with some 20th-century additions at the rear.

The exterior is two storeys high and presents a symmetrical three-window front. All windows are early 20th-century casements. The ground floor features a central open-fronted porch with a pitched slate roof and a modern door inside. To the right and left of the porch are three-light, two-pane casements. The first floor has three two-light, two-pane casements, all with slate cills. At the right end, there is a single-storey lean-to that projects to the front and rear, with two square pigeon holes for the loft at the front. The right side of the building has two doorways and three small windows. The rear has a hipped roof and a 20th-century half-glazed door. The left end features an external stack and a four-pane window on the first floor to the left. The rear is partly slate-hung on the first floor to the right, with a central two-light, two-pane casement. On the ground floor, there is a small 20th-century single-storey lean-to on the left and a 20th-century greenhouse on the right, which includes a rear door and a 20th-century window inside. The interior has not been inspected.
