Description
Egloskerry Methodist Church and the adjoining Sunday School is a Methodist chapel and Sunday school built around the mid-19th century, with the Sunday school likely being a slightly later extension. The building is constructed from rendered and painted stone rubble, with the chapel featuring slate hung on the front and left-hand end. The chapel has a slate roof with hipped ends, while the Sunday school has a slate roof with gable ends and a brick end stack.
The chapel has a rectangular plan with its entrance located at the liturgical west end, facing the road to the north. The exterior of the single-storey chapel includes a slate-hung north elevation adorned with two bands of fish-scale slates and two tall narrow 19th-century windows. The front elevation, which is the liturgical west end, features a small gabled central projection that is slightly set forward, flanked by two tall narrow four-pane windows and a roundel in the gable end. The adjoining Sunday school, located to the right, is also single-storey and illuminated by tall narrow windows.
Inside, the chapel has a simple yet complete interior with 19th-century furnishings and a coved plaster ceiling. The walls are lined with timber boarded panelling up to dado level. In the Sunday school, there are three memorial stones dedicated to T. Lyle, R. Pethick, and F.E. Sambell.
