Description

This powder house, located approximately 100 metres south of Hillside Farmhouse, dates from the early 19th century and was used for storing explosives, likely in connection with the former Penstruthal copper mine. The building is constructed from uncoursed granite rubble with some quoins and features a slurried scantle slate roof. It is a circular, single-cell structure with a diameter of about 5 metres and stands one storey high, reaching approximately 2 metres to the eaves. The doorway is situated on the north side and has quoined jambs. The roof is conical in shape. The interior has not been inspected, making this a rare surviving example of its type.
