Description
No. 56 York Road is a house that has been converted into flats. It dates from the late 18th century and was refronted in the early 19th century. The exterior is rendered with limestone dressings, and the street front features 19th-century brick. The building has a double-depth plan and consists of three storeys and a basement, with a two-bay range. The main front has steps leading up to a central semicircular-arched doorway with a six-panel door. On either side, there are full-height bow windows that have tripartite timber windows with plate-glass sashes, supported by seven stepped voussoirs, along with a cornice and parapet. The 19th-century street front features a parapeted three-window range, a semicircular-arched doorway with a key and impost, and windows with five stepped voussoirs, although the middle window on the second floor is absent. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
