Description

Montpelier House is an early 19th-century house on Richmond Road in Bristol. Constructed with brick, tuck pointing, and limestone dressings, it has a rubble basement and a hidden roof. The building follows a double-depth plan and is designed in a late Georgian style. It stands three storeys high with a basement, and features a three-window front. Architectural details include pilasters, a frieze, cornice, and parapet. The central doorway is framed by Doric pilasters and topped by a pediment, housing a 20th-century fan and a six-panel door. The windows are distinguished by five stepped voussoirs and contain eight-pane sashes; the top floor windows have a four-over-eight-pane configuration. A single-storey right-hand annex has a pointed-arched doorway with a keyed reveal and a panelled oak door featuring trefoil-headed panels. The interior features a central hall with a curved open-well staircase, decorative cornices, and panelled shutters.
