Description

Nos. 46 and 47 on Old Market Street in Bristol are a pair of attached houses that have been converted into shops and offices. They date from around 1820, with mid-19th century shop fronts, and were restored in the mid-20th century. The buildings are constructed of brick and stucco with limestone dressings, featuring a brick party wall stack and a hipped roof covered in pantiles on the right side.

These three-storey structures, each with an attic, display a late Georgian style and have a two-window range. The 19th-century shop fronts include pilaster strips leading up to a cornice and parapet. No. 46 features panelled jambs with consoles supporting a fascia that has curved end brackets and a cornice. Its left-of-centre doorway is recessed at an angle and flanked by plate-glass windows, with stucco above and narrow 6/6-pane sash windows. The roof is not visible.

No. 47 has a left-of-centre doorway that is set back from its plate-glass shop front, which has end consoles supporting a fascia and cornice. It also has segmental-arched heads with five stepped voussoirs above 6/6-pane sash windows. The interior of the buildings has not been inspected.
