Description

Merley Court is a house dating from the late 18th century, which was remodelled in the late 19th century. It is constructed of rendered brick with brick details and stone dressings, featuring an English garden wall bond front wall, brick ridge and left-hand gable stacks, and a tiled roof that is hipped to the right. The house has a single-depth, three-room plan with a left-hand extension and stands two storeys high with an attic. The front facade has a three-to-one window arrangement, with a brick eaves cornice. The entrance features sidelights and a fanlight, and it connects to the front gateway by a conservatory. The windows include 19th-century labels and quoins around recessed sashes. Notably, a right-hand ground-floor tripartite window has 6/6-pane sashes flanked by 4/4-pane sashes, while the first floor has 3/6-pane sashes. The extension features a segmental-arched ground-floor 3/6-pane sash with a label, and a plain surround to a first-floor 3/6-pane sash. Three hipped dormers with 3/3-pane sashes and decorative ridge tiles are also present. The extension has a two-window left-hand return. The interior has not been inspected.

The property includes a notable late 18th-century brick front gateway, which features a pair of pilasters supporting a dentil cornice, matching dentil coping, and a central raised section with further coping. It has a rubbed brick flat arch leading to a 19th-century six-panel door. The wall extends approximately 20 meters to the north and south from the cornice level, ramping down each side with dentilled moulded coping, and connects to the front entrance by a covered way.
