Description
The South Lodge of Canford School is a house dated 1850, designed by Charles Barry. It is built from yellow brick and features stone and brick axial ridge stacks, topped with a pantile roof. The building is a single storey with a two-gable range, showcasing a domestic Tudor style. The symmetrical front has steep gables with finials and kneelers, which are separated by a four-centre-arched doorway that contains a boarded door. The front also features canted four-light bays with hipped roofs and round-arched casements, along with paired octagonal stacks. The south gable displays a panel with the Canford arms, while the later north gable has a carved panel. The interior has not been inspected. This lodge is part of a larger group of estate cottages associated with the Wimborne family, who commissioned Barry for the design of Canford House, now known as Canford School.
