Description

This is a late 18th-century house, extended in the mid-19th century. It is built of brick, with stretcher bond mathematical tiles to the north gable, gauged brick dressings, terracotta details, moulded brick gable stacks, and a tiled roof. The building follows a double-depth plan and has two storeys and a three-window front. It is double-fronted with a cogged brick eaves cornice, with black brick headers following the gable eaves. The front door is set within a timber surround with brackets supporting a shallow pediment, and a four-panel door. The windows are 8/8-pane sashes with painted rubbed brick heads. A single window is present on the left-hand gable. Inside, the house has a staircase with a moulded handrail and turned newels, and the front ground-floor rooms have moulded ceiling cornices. An attached single-storey stable is of similar materials, with a brick end stack and a hay loft window in the north end featuring a label mould. A short north wall connects the stable to the house, with a doorway beneath a terracotta stepped gable and finial. The terracotta details used on the stable are also found on other mid-19th century buildings within the Canford Estate.
