Description
No. 190 on Wallisdown Road is a picturesque cottage built after 1870, marked with the initials M T for Marianne Talbot. The cottage is sizeable and symmetrical, featuring two full storeys constructed of red brick. It has a central two-storey gabled porch with round arches at the entrance and side windows, and the upper floor overhangs at an angle with set bricks. The windows are mullioned casements, originally fitted with diamond lattice glazing, although none of that glazing survives today. The ground floor has three-light windows with a transom, while the first floor has two-light windows. The cottage boasts steeply pitched roofs adorned with ornamental scalloped tiles arranged in bands that alternate with ordinary tiles, and the roof extends low at the rear as a lean-to. The eaves overhang, and the bargeboards are plain. The chimney breasts rise through the east and west gables. All the listed buildings on Wallisdown Road and Columbia Road are part of a group.
